Purification local salt in Aceh Timur regency using alkaline (KOH and NaOH) activated bentonite

The various purification methods have been developed to improve the quality local salt, NaCl content > 94%. Bentonite is one of materials used as binder impurities in purification. purpose study was synthesis a modified bentonite using alkaline solution, which includes natrium hydroxide (NaOH) and potassium (KOH) with concentrations (1, 1.5, 2, 2.5 M) determined level Na+, Ca2+ Mg2+ metals AAS. activating agent 1 M (1:10) were stirred for three hours. Then, dried two hours an oven at 110?C. activated four 170?C. characterized analytical techniques, such XRD, FTIR, SEM. basal spacing d001 on diffractogram significantly unaffected by activation. FTIR analysis represents stretching vibration -OH shifts towards lower wavenumber. Alkaline activation reduced from increase pore surface's porosity. levels people's salt increased after being alkaline. Na+ followed decrease metals. KOH-activated had higher than NaOH-activated bentonite.
